How the Hanley Disability Legacy of Service Began

Frank Hanley liked to tell the story of one of his very first legal clients.

In fact, he started helping this client the day after he became a lawyer in 1970.

He represented a Vietnam War veteran who needed Social Security Disability benefits because health problems made it impossible for him to work.

Frank discovered how much he could make a difference for someone whose life had been disrupted by medical conditions—helping them restore their financial security and dignity. He discovered his calling: Social Security Disability law.

“Winning his case not only changed his life, it changed mine,” Frank said many years later.

He founded the Law Offices of Frank Hanley and went on to a 45-year career as a disability lawyer, focusing intensely on this one kind of case.

He was one of the most established and respected disability attorneys in Indiana and nationally.

Frank died on May 14, 2020, at the age of 77.

His legacy of helping every-day, hardworking people at some of the most difficult times in their lives goes on. His team went on to form Hanley Disability to continue his tradition.

The Values Disability Attorney Frank Hanley Instilled at Hanley Disability

Today Hanley Disability is a team of disability advocates—not disability lawyers like Frank but professionals with training specifically in handling Social Security Disability cases.
Frank trained our team and instilled the values that guide us:

  • Getting to know you and your individual situation
  • Meeting you in person to discuss your claim
  • Helping you at every step (not just appealing a denial, but also applying for benefits in the first place)
  • Keeping you well-informed about the process of qualifying for benefits and what to expect
  • Answering your questions as we go

Frank Hanley had a welcoming smile, a warm personality and a caring nature.

While some disability law firms can feel like a factory pushing through cases like yours without any personal touch, Frank wanted to create a disability advocacy firm that feels neighborly and supportive.

And that’s what he did.

When you work with a disability advocate, YOU NEVER PAY A FEE UNTIL YOU WIN BENEFITS.

And you don’t have to commit to anything without having a conversation with us first, FOR FREE, to talk about your situation and your needs.

How Disability Advocates and Disability Lawyers Help You

Even though our disability advocates team has helped thousands of people in over 50 years since Frank’s first client as a disability lawyer—and our current advocates have decades of combined experience—we never lose sight of one thing:

You’re going through an incredibly hard time, and you need someone to ease your burden.

You want to know you have someone capable handling your disability claim, so you can focus on your own well-being.

So in addition to working hard to win disability benefits for you, Hanley Disability strives to make the process smoother.

We do all of this and more:

  • Helping you complete the long and detailed Social Security Disability application forms
  • Organizing your evidence—which includes medical records from your doctor visits
  • If you’re denied benefits, creating a plan for your appeal
  • Preparing you to speak to a disability judge in a hearing
  • Keeping you on top of deadlines and requirements along the way

The lessons of Frank Hanley’s devotion to helping others as a disability attorney are never too far from the work we do every day.

At Hanley Disability, we’re grateful for what he built—and proud to keep serving people in need.

If health problems have stopped you from working, you need financial relief—and you’re looking for someone who you know will listen, understand and help because caring is part of who they are—talk to us at Hanley Disability.
